The Story Behind Pocketbois

People often ask me, "Uni, what is Pocketbois?"

The answer isn't t-shirts, hats and hoodies.

It's a story.

I was born in Hawaii and raised in Southern California. Like many people, life didn't follow a straight path. My parents divorced when I was young, and through all the changes I spent years trying to figure out where I fit in and who I wanted to become.

I grew up in a Christian home and was heavily influenced by the culture around me—music, skateboarding, surfing, hip-hop, graffiti art, sports, cars, photography, and the creative energy of the 80s and 90s.

Some influences pushed me in good directions. Others could have easily taken me somewhere else.

One thing I learned early is that the people around us matter. My brother always looked out for me,  but he made one thing clear:

"You're not going to be a gangster."

That simple statement helped shape the direction of my life.

As the years went on, I realized that everyone is searching for something—purpose, identity, belonging, and a reason they were created.

For me, being physically fit and sports became an outlet. Faith became an anchor. Relationships became some of life's greatest blessings.

At sixteen years old, I met a girl named Faith at church. By God's grace, we've now been together for over thirty-five years and married for more than twenty-seven.

Years later, while taking an entrepreneurship class, I created Pocketbois.

The inspiration came from a surfing term called the pocket—the sweet spot of a wave where everything comes together.

And that's when something clicked.

The pocket is the sweet spot of a wave.
Jesus is the sweet spot of life.

That simple idea became the foundation of Pocketbois.

Whether you're a surfer, skater, athlete, artist, entrepreneur, parent, photographer, cook, musician, mechanic, I believe everyone has gifts. Everyone has purpose. Everyone is searching for their sweet spot.

Pocketbois exists to encourage people to discover those gifts, pursue their passions, build meaningful relationships, and make a positive impact on the people around them.

This brand isn't about selling merch.

It's about people over product.

It's about community over clout.

It's about purpose over popularity.

It's about helping people find their sweet spot.

My story isn't perfect. It's simply a story of God's faithfulness through every season of life.
